Luxury Vinyl Plank – Kitchen Installation
The luxury vinyl plank installation was the last part of our scope of work at this job site. We also repaired extensive drywall damage and painted the interior of this home. In this post we will show you how we installed vinyl plank flooring on top of existing vinyl sheeting. This is a simple process that any home owner can do with limited tools.

Clear work space
For this vinyl plank installation job, we had a small area to floor, which only involved moving the refrigerator and oven. Normally if a home is not vacant, there is much more time spent moving around furniture.
Remove baseboard
Removal of base board is part of installing new flooring, as the new floor must go underneath the baseboard. On this job, we removed rubber cove-base and glued on new cove-base after the flooring was installed.
Sweep and vacuum
Cleaning the surface where you install the new vinyl flooring on top of is one of the most important steps. If this step is not done properly, debris can affect the final result negatively. Imagine putting dirt and pebbles in your shoes. You may not feel discomfort while sitting but once you start walking around you will. It’s similar with floor coverings, you may not notice it right away but you will down the road, when the joints start breaking.
Install flooring
We installed the vinyl plank flooring with the use of a tapping block and hammer for connecting the pieces. To cut the planks we used a utility knife to score and snap. We used a jigsaw for the small, complex cuts. On this job we were able to lay the vinyl planks on top of the existing vinyl sheeting. The vinyl planks did not require an underlayment, so we just went right over the old flooring. Often times we have to rip out the old flooring down to the sub floor but we got lucky on this job.
Re-attach baseboard
After the vinyl plank flooring installation is complete, we glued on new cove-base through out the kitchen. We also put the oven and refrigerator back in place. Tip: if you must move a refrigerator when installing new flooring then make sure you plug it in so the food doesn’t spoil.
Conclusion
This was a very simply vinyl plank installation job. With the flooring installed, we concluded out scope of work at this home. We did a ton of drywall patching and painted the entire interior.
