Job Description

Our company was hired to complete a laminate floor installation job in Vancouver, WA. The property was a three story home. The approximate square footage of flooring installed was about 1700. The floor installation was completed by a crew of two and it took about three days. The property was under construction at the time of this job and was not occupied by the homeowners.

Steps to Completion

laminate floor installation Vancouver, WA

This home was a construction site at the time, so before we could start installing laminate we cleaned the sub floor. We started on the third floor and shifted all construction materials to the last room we would be flooring. We scrapped the sub floor and vacuumed it. After the sub floor was clean we installed underlayment as required by flooring manufacturer. Once underlayment was installed, we began installing laminate. We prefer to start our flooring installations by going off the longest wall. This means, we install the first row of planks off of a specific wall. It is important to be sure your starting row of planks is straight or you could run into unevenness as the job progresses. We started the installation on the third floor and worked our way down to the first floor.

We used the miter saw to make width cuts and a table saw to make length cuts. For the complex cuts we used the jigsaw or the table saw when convenient. After the laminate floor was installed, we installed our transition pieces. We prefer to install all of the transition pieces at the end of the project because we can take all the measurements and cut them all in one trip to the saw. Once all the installation was done, we did a thorough clean up and exited the job site.

Conclusion

This was simple laminate floor installation job. Our main challenge was undercutting all of the doors. There were quite a few doors and closets to undercut and not all the planks went in easily because of this. Aside from the undercutting, this was a simple project and we were happy to have to opportunity to complete it.
